"The Beaded Buccaneer" Gasparilla Corner Person
"The Beaded Buccaneer" Gasparilla Corner Person
Get ready to surrender the booty! Commemorate Tampa’s legendary Gasparilla Pirate Fest with this one-of-a-kind "Corner Person" created by renowned folk artist Su Griggs.
This handcrafted pirate looks ready to trade treasure on the high seas. Sculpted with Su’s signature expressive style, "The Beaded Buccaneer" wears a red bandana and sports a black eye patch detailed with a white "X". A colorful macaw parrot is perched faithfully on his left shoulder.
Standing on his signature tall, black-and-white striped bamboo legs, he wears a yellow-orange tunic with textured red shoulders. What makes him truly unique is his jewelry: instead of gold chains, he wears a sash of chunky white stone/shell beads draped across his chest. His wide belt features a large rectangular buckle and holds a silver curved horn or tusk. He is armed with a wire pirate hook on his right hand, while his left arm ends in a spiraled natural twine hand.
