"The Hook-Handed Mate" Gasparilla Corner Person
"The Hook-Handed Mate" Gasparilla Corner Person
Get ready to surrender the booty! Commemorate Tampa’s legendary Gasparilla Pirate Fest with this one-of-a-kind "Corner Person" created by renowned folk artist Su Griggs.
This handcrafted pirate is ready for a raid on Bayshore Boulevard. Sculpted with Su’s signature whimsical style, "The Hook-Handed Mate" features a raucous expression with a gold hoop earring and a bright red bandana wrapped around his head. A colorful macaw parrot rides securely on his left shoulder.
Standing on his signature tall, black-and-white striped bamboo legs, this pirate is dressed for adventure in a tan tunic with red puffy shoulders and a wide belt featuring a large buckle. His accessories are truly unique: gold chains, a silver horn or tooth talisman hanging from his belt, and a distinctive wire pirate hook on his right arm replacing his hand. His left arm ends in a spiraled natural twine hand.
