"The Jolly Roger Captain" Gasparilla Corner Person
"The Jolly Roger Captain" Gasparilla Corner Person
Get ready to surrender the booty! Commemorate Tampa’s legendary Gasparilla Pirate Fest with this one-of-a-kind "Corner Person" created by renowned folk artist Su Griggs.
This handcrafted pirate is one of the most menacing in the crew. Sculpted with Su’s signature expressive style, "The Jolly Roger Captain" features a weathered grey pirate hat emblazoned with a skull and crossbones symbol. He sports wild, long black string hair, a handlebar mustache, and a black eye patch marked with a grey "X".
Standing on his signature tall bamboo legs, he shares the rare "booted" look with legs wrapped in red fabric and detailed with black chenille crisscrosses. He wears a distressed red jacket over a white shirt, adorned with gold bead necklaces. His waist is cinched with a red belt holding a silver curved dagger and a unique cluster of blue fringe tassels. He is armed with a wire pirate hook on his right hand, while his left arm ends in a spiraled natural twine hand.
